Camp Descriptions

Actors will spend their days in front of the camera learning techniques and skills for auditioning for film and TV. They will also have the opportunity to learn Stage and Theatre acting methods. Students will be introduced to elements of the Meisner technique and how to accomplish authentic acting at a greater level. This camp is perfect for students looking for an introduction to acting or experienced actors who want to challenge themselves with new scene work and monologues. No experience is necessary but we do expect all of our students to come serious about working and learning - while we also have a lot of fun!

Using a hands on approach, students will learn about making films from start to finish. The class begins with screenwriting and preproduction planning while students develop a story and learn what it takes to move their story into production. Students will discuss professional production techniques such as professional lighting, sound, and cinematography. Over the course of the week the students will write, film, edit, and produce a short film that will be screened for family friends on the final afternoon of camp.

Depending on specific camp week the Filmmaking class will focus on general filmmaking, documentary filmmaking, or a focus on young filmmakers.

Students will learn basic acting techniques and have the opportunity to work in front of the camera and on stage. We will play improvisation games, dress up as characters, make costumes, and write stories as well! There will be lots of free play time in this class so that students can develop their curiosity and creative thinking. No experience is necessary but we do expect all of our students to come ready to listen and work well with others - while we also have lots of silly fun!

This camp is designed for older students who want to work at a more intensive level. Students will use Meisner technique and voice work to learn to listen and be fully present in their acting. Actors will challenge themselves as they work with partners and there will be a lot of time devoted to individually coaching students through monologues and scenes.

Ever wanted to be in a play but never had the time commitment to spend weeks or months rehearsing and performing? Our theatre production classes are a great introduction to theater as students will audition, rehearse, and perform a show over this epic TWO-WEEK CAMP! Students will be introduced into all the aspects of creating a professional theater production and conduct a performance for family and friends on the last day of camp. Everyone who signs up for the camp will receive a part and we will have additional details on the specific show titles very soon!

Interested in the technical side of theatre? Our Stagecraft course is the perfect introduction into all the things that make the theatre process work. Spend time with local designers, directors, stage managers and producers learning about costume design, set design and construction, lighting design, props, stage management, and more! Students in our Stagecraft class will support an upcoming Theatre Production at Sonorous Road and work as the technical crew if the class coincides with a camp theatre production.

Write, Shoot, Edit, Perform: work with a team to produce a short film from start to finish. This class is geared towards our younger students (Ages 6 - 10) and will help them explore the entire filmmaking process in a fun and supportive environment! Students will get to develop a story, write the script, audition and perform on camera, and then shoot and edit the movie. At the end of the course family and friends will be invited to watch the premier of the new film! This camp is a popular one but we are only able to offer it twice so be sure to sign up today!

How does a director bring all the thoughts and ideas from a team of dozens or hundreds of people to craft a single vision? How do they take words on the page and put that on screen? How do you communicate those thoughts in your head to other people? How do you talk to actors? In this advanced camp, students will learn and practice the skills needed to visualize a written story, communicate with actors, provide quick and artistically informed answers to their crew, and use the tools of filmmaking to shape their own short. Students will leave equipped with their own directed scene and newfound skills essential for telling compelling stories on screen and leading a team of people.
